Master's of Science Thesis, Psychology - 2016

• I carried out an experimental study on cuteness and behavioral carefulness. The purpose of this study was to investigate if exposure to cute stimuli lead to better performance and increased behavioural carefulness on a manual dexterity task.
• Methods used during this study were a mix of survey questions, performing a task, and heart rate measurement.
• Statistical test carried out to analyze the results were paired sample t-tests, Mann-Whitney U test, correlation tests (Kendall tau-B and Pearson correlation)
• Key findings: highly cute images were higher in approach and nurturance motivation. However, no relationship was found between cuteness and performance on the manual dexterity task. Additionally, no significant results were found for heart rate measures.

Master's of Science Thesis, Intercultural Communication - 2013

• I researched to what extent personal values influence the perception of advertisement headlines that have rational and emotional appeals.
• I used an online survey with an experimental design.
• Statistical tests that were done included independent sample t-tests, paired-sample t-tests and analysis of variance.
• Key findings: respondents who rated high on personal values that emphasized more emotional appeals preferred advertisement headlines that emphasized more rational appeals. The opposite was true for respondents who rated high on personal values that emphasized rational appeals. It was complex to make a strict division between emotional and rational appeals without some degree of overlap between the two. Similar personal values also do not necessarily mean similar personalities.

• Focused on sociolinguistic and phonetic research and researched to what extent a second dialect in your second language influences the pronunciation of certain vowels in your native language.
• Used a mixed method: semi-structured interviews, but also performed quantitative analysis by using cross-tabulations and logistic regression analysis with Rbrul statistical software.
• Key findings: the acquisition of a second dialect in your second language could influence the pronunciation of certain vowels in your native language and that it depended on your social circle and how much you were exposed to the second dialect in your second language.
